Thanks, San Francisco

Well, in one of the rare moments in Saints history, the 49ers helped us out. They beat the Seahawks, which all but eliminates them from contention for a first-round bye. Either one Saints win or one Seahawks loss (and they play San Diego next week) and they are DEAD.

So, true believers, it comes down to this: If Atlanta beats the Cowboys Saturday night and the Saints beat the Redskins Sunday (or, for that matter, win one of their next three games):

THE SAINTS HAVE THE #2 SEED WRAPPED UP!

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but...OH MY GOD, IT'S GONNA HAPPEN! Please, God, don't strike me down for celebrating too early. Can't we Saints fans enjoy this impending moment without having our boys blow it?

What do you think?

And oh, by the way, if the Falcons don't help us out too and lose to the Cowboys, the Falcons are officially eliminated from the division race. So it's a win/win for the Saints. But I still want the bigger win.

POST SCRIPT: Mr. Clio points out that the New York Giants would still be mathematically alive if they won this weekend. Of course, they'd still have to win out and the Saints would still have to lose out. Thanks for the information.

It's such a strange feeling isn't it? After all this time, it almost doesn't feel right.

But it sure feels good.

It is against my nature to root for the Falcons, but I will sure be cheering on Ron Mexico on Saturday.

CBS says we need a Giants loss or tie too. Is that true?

The Giants could still take the tie-breaker from us if we lose to them. They are 1-3 vs. the AFC too. So we need Dallas to stay ahead of them in the East, which won't happen if Dallas loses this weekend.

I will make a note of including the Giants scenario in the future.

All the other teams seem weak at this point. We are the only ones looking good. But, to quote a monkey, we need to "stay the course."

the saints could lose the next three and i would still be happier than a pig in
s+++.

no one had any idea preseason that they would continue to keep growing this late in the season the way they did.

i kept waiting for the rookies to hit a plateau by week eight.

this is the first time late in the season where if they sputtered late it would not be a letdown.

how ever far they go this year i will respect them in a way i havent since i was a litle kid who didnt know any better.

they are a no shame team this year no matter what the final tally.

n.f.c championship . superbowl, wildcard.

where ever the season ends this year this is the best saints team in my lifetime.
