A Letter to Our Friends Across the Pond . . .
Dear Northshore Residents:
Would you tell your people over there to stop blaming all their crime problems on New Orleans. It's laughable. Four people get killed in a trailer park over a drug deal gone bad and now all of a sudden your increases in car theft, burglary, and other petty crimes are 100% New Orleanians fault. Oh, oh this is the best: the various police agencies in St. Tammany Parish need help from the Louisiana State Police. HA.
Houston already did this in the hope of securing some FEMA money. Nice to see St. Tammany follow suit. St. Tammany Parish got what it wanted and deserved. Remember the plan: Grow, grow, grow so "your kind" can leave New Orleans and the Southshore. You know, put subdivisions, walmarts, and all the other accomidations anywhere and everywhere to be the "big city". Well you wanted to be the "big city", so here have some big city problems. Don't ask the state to bail you out when the population has overgrown its police force.
The fact is if YOUR parish government hadn't whored itself out to developers for so long and actually restricted development, home prices would be too high for "them" to invade your happy little town. I know that supply and demand thing is really tricky.
I'm not even going to entertain the notion of criminals driving 35-45 minutes to the Northshore to commit crime because of the National Guard and State Police in New Orleans. It's freaking ridiculous. Do they pay the $3 toll too? In your eyes they were too poor and didn't have the means to leave New Orleans when a killer storm was coming, but now they can afford to come to your happy little town.
So I ask thee, ole fleer across the pond: Is this what the people in your "hood" really think?
Because if you do then I think the St. Tammany police departments were waiting for something like this to happen. When it did, it was a sign of relief because now by blaming New Orleans they can beef up their Pre-Katrina already understaffed police forces with state/federal money.
Lastly, so I don't sound too negative I offer a solution. If New Orleans is such a drain on your community, blow up the Twin Span and Causeway and get a job over there. After all, the City of New Orleans is nothing but a drain on your community and removing that link will ultimately get rid of 100% of your crime problem.

If you google one of the victims, she's a Slidell woman who already has arrests on the North Shore for passing counterfeit bills pre-Katrina.

I agree. Our nurses need to stay on the North Shore. Our Human Resource people need to stay on the North Shore. Our doctors need to stay here on the North Shore. All of our skilled people need to stay on the North Shore. Our kids need to go to Southastern University and screw UNO. And the folks of New Orleans that have taken the Texas School System to new lows in a matter of months don’t need to come over either.
The North Shore had 3 or 4 murders a god damn year. Our values are different and they have appeared to have worked up until now. Now, we along with Jefferson Parish are being infected with the south shore's scum of humanity and we are suppose to keep our mouths shut? Just because New Orleans has or had no clue as to how to deal with the criminal element doesn’t mean we don’t. Eat your hearts out and if you don’t like how it’s done on the North Shore, stay out.
Blow the bridges up if you want and my next evacuation will be a piece of cake while you sit in the traffic jam from hell trying to get to fucking LaPlace . I no longer give a rat’s ass.
And again, to hear the words that put the less fortunate down by the phony bleeding hearts (Trailer Trash are they?????) goes into the same file cabinet as remarks made by your cohorts about the volunteers and tourists. You all make Rush Fat head Limpbow seem sensible and compassionate.
If someone has a problem with the sheriff's office stopping someone with dread locks since the description of one of the New Orleans murderers was a person with dreadlocks, then go to hell or better yet, stay in fucking hell.

Mermaid, I have given and done my share for this effort. I am not going to sit back while these so called compassionate people label me whatever they think I am and call people who are poor and live in trailers “Trailer trash". I have never seen any of our officers looting or steeling cars from car lots. Your school system is top notch. The last thing you need to do is ask for forgiveness of anyone living over here. Of the 435 Members of the House of which 201 whom are Democrats, only 40 voted for the offshore drilling bill that will provide revenue to save our coast, New Orleans, St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes.
Is anyone going to say anything despairingly against these people and put some effort into helping Reps Jindal, Maloncon and the rest of the La delegation in getting this legislation passed? Or are we just going to worry about David Vitter’s belief on gay marriage and flag burning. I for one do not want to flood again.

Better than a payroll tax, I think we need to institute a property tax without a $75,000 homestead exemption. Why take all this money from a tax paying American public and then shelter ourselves from taxes.

We are all in the same boat here--we sink or we swim together. KB's intial post I think was written in frustration to the comments or insinuation that all of the Northshore's problems stem directly from New Orleans and the Southshore--i.e. their shit doesn't stink. He speaks this not only because of any comments the Sheriff has said, but from what those he knows that live on Nothshore have said to him and the attiudes they've displayed to him. Are these feelings representative of everyone on the Northshore? Of course not. One thing that comes to mind, however, that embodies the same rationale is a couple of years ago when the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission (or whatever their legal name is) came out with a new slogan for their PR efforts. It was something like: "St. Tammany Parish: New Orleans' Northshore" or something to that effect. There were people there that went nuts because they didn't want to have any affiliation with the words "New Orleans" because they believed that was a negative connotation. To me, that arguement is moronic--and very narrow minded. Obviously, the burbs on the Northshore exist because of New Orleans. This is the type attitude I believe KB was addressing.

As for taxes, we are the highest taxed Parish in the state. And we get good stuff for that although I have tried to get my wife, Suzie Sorrority (LSU???? I don’t think so!…Tulane—at least I stayed in town) to sleep with the tax assessor over here so I could hold on to some of that South Shore money I made.(Ooooops...I got caught again...you a sly one Uppity.)
Anyway...15 years on the North Shore....never once vandalized, robbed, assaulted...nothing execpt that god damn paper boy who throws my paper in the ditch. I am going to drown that little prick in my Olympic sized swimming pool if I ever catch up with him and that freakin’ Corvette that he drives. (Hard to catch him in that big old Hummer of mine).
13 years on the corner of Filmore and Wingate and got robbed 5 times (not counting the lawnmower the bastards stole out of my shed or when my wife had a purse stolen at Popeyes on Canal St. (Don't you just hate that Al Copeland made all his money with that New Orleans food stuff while living in Metairie? And that phony Frank "Naturally New Orleans" Davis lives in Slidell and the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Zephyrs are actually in Metairie?????) Well, you got the Hornets except they seem to think Oklahoma City is a much nicer place then New Orleans. That pisses me off. You????

This is it, the summer fury has begiun to make itself felt in the blogosphere. The usual high tempers that come about this time of year are already noticeably worse, exacerbated by the fear/unease/stress/strain etc of Post K NOLA. The thing is, we should be channelling some of this energy in a useful direction.
I think we are all on the same side here, all on board to try to fix this mess, correct?

If you re-read the original post you will see that it was not meant to start a flame war. KENNER BRA had someting to say that he felt was important. Sure it was critical of North Shore residents but it wasn't directed at any one person or group with intention of starting some assinine argument, like you and Uptown Gatsby have been doing.
So, if you or Uptown agrees or disagrees with one of our posts then fine, say so, but use a little class. Ray in Austin at least showed some class by apologizing to you yet you come back with your school yard bully attitude and call him chicken in so many words. All we ask is that you keep your disagreements on a civilized level. I've seen way to many flame wars online and they never go anywhere and they completely hijack the intent of the original post or comments.
