NOAA Radar Animation of Hurricane Katrina Plaquemines Parish Landfall

8am Monday, 29 August 2005

This morning, I stumbled across this 14-hour radar animation of Hurricane Katrina making it's first landfall in Lower Plaquemines Parish and then entering Lake Borgne. In the animation, notice the northern and then northeast turn the storm makes offshore at about midnight which resulted in an eastern approach of New Orleans instead of a direct or western one. As bad as things are/were, they could have been even worse had the path not changed in those last hours.
